100%! All unrestricted Cougar Pride donations fund the scholarships we provide for our student-athletes in 17 sport programs and the priority needs of Houston Athletics.
A UNRESTRICTED or Cougar Pride donation supports the annual fund. These donations fund student-athlete scholarships in all 17 sport programs and the priority needs of Houston Athletics. A RESTRICTED donation (Sport Specific or Capital Campaign), directly funds the specific program or capital campaign project.
All donations made to Houston Athletics have a vast impact on our sport programs. Our primary focus is to offset the costs of student-athlete scholarships through the Cougar Pride Annual Fund. Sport specific programs have their own membership giving levels and benefits. Donations made to sport specific programs or capital campaign projects accrue priority points.
Absolutely! Many companies have matching gift programs, meaning they match (or even double) their employees’ donations to qualifying charitable organizations. The Cougar Pride fiscal year ends on June 30, 2017. All donations made prior to June 30th will be counted towards annual benefits including parking, seating and ticket priority.

In accordance with IRS regulations, the University of Houston will provide gift receipts for any donations made to Cougar Pride.

  • Any Cougar Pride donation required to purchase Houston Football season tickets is, by law, 80% tax-deductible.
    • Example:
    • You pay $1000 ($200 Ticket/$800 Cougar Pride donation) for a 2015 Houston Football season ticket, 80% of the $800 Cougar Pride donation ($640) is tax-deductible.

  • This applies only to season tickets purchased in sections of TDECU Stadium requiring a Cougar Pride donation.

  • The 80% rule does not apply to any Cougar Pride donations made above and beyond what is required to purchase Houston Football season tickets.
    • Example:
    • You donate a total of $2,500 to Cougar Pride.
    • Your Houston Football season tickets require a $1,000 donation.
    • Only the amount required for your Houston Football season tickets, $1,000, is subject to the 80% tax-deductibility IRS law.
    • The additional $1,500 donation is treated separately for tax deduction purposes.

  • The 80% rule does not apply to any Restricted donations, Sport-Specific or Capital Campaign, made to Cougar Pride. Please consult your tax advisor to determine the specific tax deductibility of any Restricted donations.

The University of Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and individuals affiliated with the department, including donors, are governed by the rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the American Athletic Conference. Ensuring compliance with NCAA and conference rules is a top priority for Houston Athletics. Compliance should be everyone’s responsibility, especially for our donors. Rule violations involving donors may adversely impact the eligibility of current or prospective student-athletes. Additionally, violations involving donors may prevent future association with Houston Athletics. Your participation and acceptance of benefits and privileges available from Houston Athletics is your acknowledgement and agreement to abide by the rules and regulations of the NCAA, American Athletic Conference and University of Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
